Dr Franklin Nobrega, Associate Professor, is a specialist in microbiology with research and industry experience across a range of areas including microbiomes, bacteriophages, gene editing and CRISPR technology.
If your project involves understanding the presence or behaviour of microorganisms we will bring Franklin on board to advise on the best approach and conduct the testing and analysis you need. As the head of a biomolecular research lab, he has access to the advanced equipment you would expect from a university facility, including a state-of-the-art protein production platform.

Dr Franklin Nobrega
Franklin joined the University of Southampton in 2020. Past roles include industry consultancy for Danish microbiome company SNIPR Biome, and for BGI Group, the world’s leading sequencing company, where he advised a team investigating viromes. He has a PhD in bacterial genetics and is co-founder and former CEO of a molecular diagnosis start-up company.
