Meet Julian Wharton

Professor Julian Wharton is a corrosion and surface engineering expert at the national Centre for Advanced Tribology at Southampton (nCATS). He has 25 years’ experience in the field of corrosion research, electrochemical techniques and characterisation, exploring the interplay between corrosion degradation and structural integrity, particularly in the maritime and aerospace sectors. He also has extensive industry consultancy experience, with clients including BP, Rolls-Royce, DSTL, National Grid and Siemens.

We call upon Julian’s specialist knowledge for projects where companies want to understand the performance of metallic coating systems. Working closely with nC2’s corrosion consultant, Dr Spencer Court, Julian advises on the best techniques to provide the answers our clients are looking for, and applies his academic rigour and expertise to the analysis of test and imaging data.
